Journey of becoming an IAS

Dr Tanu Jain IAS  was an average student but her hard work and determination, supported her at every step of the life. She started her preparation for medical exam in the year 2004. Her family supported and motivated her for what she wants to achieve. After completing her medical studies as dentist she was not satisfied by her achievement in life. She wants to grow more and to capture hikes of the sky.

She shared her dream of becoming IAS with her family. As her family was a business family, they were not very competent to support her. Still her mother went to purchase books for her preparation and she cracked her first preliminary exam with just a preparation of three month. That gave Tanu Jain confidence of next level and she started her journey of becoming IAS from 2012 and ended in 2014. She got her first posting in the year 2015 and was allocated the Armed Forces Headquarter Services.

It was not an easy way, her focused hard work of day and night and working over 7 to 8 hours a day. Her hard work paid her when the UPSC declared the results. Dr Tanu has cleared  the UPSC exam in the third attempt.  In her first attempt she cleared preliminary exam. In the second, she passed both pre and mains but could not make the interview and in the third attempt, she finally achieved her goals.

Professional Life 

She started her professional life as dentist. During her internship, she learnt about the UPSC exam which was a direct approach of becoming senior officer or the way to join administrative services, as she believed that there is a limitation in doctor’s profession but your decision in civil services affects a very large area of the society.

So she decided to crack the exam and achieved her goal in 2014 and got her first posting at Armed Forces Headquarter Service in 2015.

She further continued her hard work and served the country for 7 and half years.

She holds a very important position of Assistant Director of DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) and had different roles there.

She was ultimately appointed to the Ministry of Defence in India before going on maternity leave.

During her meternity period she realised about her passion for studies and teaching and instantly quit her job from Ministry of Defence, India as an IAS.

Later, Dr Tanu Jain IAS became a member of UPSC interviewers at Drishti IAS Academy and started taking mock interviews. She works as an interviewer for the next few years.

While working there, she earned a lot of fame and popularity and as a result, she started her own academy ‘Tathastu‘.

Dr Tanu Jain IAS is graduate from medical science, done BDS from Subharti Medical College, Meerut and schooling at Cambridge Public School, Srinivaspuri, New Delhi. After completing her medical degree and internship she started preparing for Civil Services Exam.

She was born in a Jain family to Mr Akash  and Arpita Jain on 17 July 1986, She belongs to Sadar Bazar, New Delhi. she lived in a joint family but her parents were very supportive. She was completely from a business family so there is not much of a professional background. Her father Mr. Akash Jain always motivated her to achieve the goal.

Dr Tanju jain Husband name is  Mr. Vaatsalya Kumar who is a Philosopher and social worker by profession. Tanu and Vaatsalya were close friends during the struggling period of Tanu Jain. Mr. Vaatsalya supported Tanu in preparation of her interview and the result was that ,this time she got 200 marks in the interview in her third UPSC attempt . Later their friendship turned into lifetime knot.

According to her, UPSC is not a journey which ends in 3 months, it is a journey which take years. Firm decision, disciplined life style and hard work are only way to crack the Exam. The best practice which one can adopt is to solve previous year papers.

To clear the interview, answering to the point is required. Your voice should not be jittery, it should be firm and confident like an officer.
