He was doing good in domestic cricket for which Kolkata Knight Riders franchise acquired him at his base price of INR 20 lakhs for the Indian Premier League, 2021 season.
He made his IPL debut against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team on September 20, 2021.
Venkatesh Iyer made his maiden IPL fifty against Mumbai Indians on September 23, 2021. The young all-rounder turned fortunes of the franchise by scoring 370 runs at an average of 41. His good form played important role in KKR’s run to the final.
