Sudha Murthy Chairperson of Infosys has added one more prestigious award,Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in India to her career achievements.She is well known Educator, author, philanthropist and the Chairperson of Infosys Foundation.

Sudha Murthy, born in 1951 in Shiggaon, Karnataka, is the daughter of Dr R.H Kulkarni and Mrs. Vimala Kulkarni. Her mother worked as a teacher, while her father was a surgeon. Sudha grew up in a joint family with her grandparents and siblings. Her family emphasized education, which helped her and her siblings develop their careers. Sudha excelled in academics and graduated with top honors in engineering from her college. She also earned a gold medal from the Chief Minister of Karnataka for her graduation and from the Indian Institute of Engineering for her post-graduation, where she again topped her class.

Sudha Murthy’s career has been quite diverse, with experiences in engineering, education, and writing. She started her career as a Development Engineer at TATA Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO), one of India’s largest auto manufacturers. Despite the gender bias in the job advertisement, she wrote a postcard to the company chairman to point out the discriminatory practice. To her surprise, she was invited for a special interview and hired for the role. She worked at TELCO in Pune, Mumbai, and Jamshedpur.

After her marriage, Sudha Murthy shifted to Pune to support her husband in establishing Infosys Foundation in 1996. Prior to that, she had worked with Walchand Group of Industries in Pune as a Senior Systems Analyst. Alongside her professional career, Sudha Murthy has also contributed to the field of education. She has taken classes as a guest professor at PG Center of Bangalore University and Christ University.

Personal Life of Sudha Murthy

Sudha Murthy, the wife of N.R. Narayana Murthy, co-founder of Infosys, met him while she was working at TELCO and he was working as a research assistant through a common friend. Their meetings increased over time and they eventually decided to get married. However, Sudha’s father was initially against the marriage because Murthy wasn’t earning well at the time. But when Murthy became a general manager at Patni Computer and started earning well, Sudha’s parents supported their marriage. They got married at Murthy’s house, and the ceremony cost INR 800, which was partially paid for by both Sudha and Murthy.

Sudha and Narayana have two children, an elder daughter and younger son. Sudha’s daughter, Akshata, married her US classmate, Rishi Sunak, who became the first person of color to become the Prime Minister in British history. Sudha’s son, Rohan Murthy, is the founder of the Murty Classical Library of India.

Sudha’s siblings are also well-established and have achieved their ultimate goals. Her brother, Shrinivas Kulkarni, is a US-based astronomer who won the Dan David Prize in 2017. Controversy

Sudha Murthy was involved in a controversy regarding her meeting with Sambhaji Bhide. It was alleged that she was pressured to meet him and that she did not know him. Sudha Murthy clarified that she had met Sambhaji Bhide out of respect for elders and that she had no political or personal affiliations with him.

Sudha Murthy was also embroiled in a similar controversy when she touched the feet of Pramoda Devi Wadiyar of Mysuru’s royal family. Some people criticized her for this act, claiming that it was a sign of subservience to the royal family. Sudha Murthy defended her actions, stating that she had touched the feet of Pramoda Devi Wadiyar out of respect and that it was a cultural tradition in India.

The Infosys Foundation, which Sudha Murthy heads, was faced with a challenge when their registration was canceled by the Home Ministry. The foundation was able to prove that it did not come under the purview of FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) as per the amendment made to the act in 2016. The foundation approached the ministry to consider this and their request was eventually granted, allowing the foundation to continue its work.
